Pink City Jaipur Lights Up to Support Girls’ Education in India JAIPUR, 20 July 2024:

This event has expired

An awareness initiative to underscore the importance of girls’ education. July 20th and 21st, Hawa Mahal, Albert Hall, and Jantar Mantar will be all decked up with bright yellow lights – the signature colour of the child rights organisation – to spread the message of the campaign. The illumination event, organised jointly by CRY , DIS and in collaboration with the Archaeology and Museum Department (Government of Rajasthan), aims to draw public attention to the campaign which centres on the issue of girls’ education in India.
This comes as part of CRY’s seven-week-long campaign that was launched on June 24th to raise awareness and bring in change to the deep-rooted societal mind-set of gender discrimination leading to deprioritising girls’ education. Despite much progress made in girls’ education since the Right to Education Act 2009 came into force, recent data reveals that only three out of five girls in India reach higher secondary education. Socio-economic challenges, cultural norms, and inadequate infrastructure issues continue to hinder girls’ educational journeys.
