Payal, a 10-year-old girl, is the daughter of Suresh and Surta Bawri. While her parents and three siblings live in Gujarat for work, Payal stays with her grandmother in Jaipur and studies in the 6th standard at Government Upper Primary School, Ramdev. Recently, she visited Gujarat for a month to support her family, as her younger sister was unwell.
Upon returning to Jaipur, Payal was distressed to find her name removed from the school’s register due to her prolonged absence. This, coupled with her classmates’ behavior, discouraged her from attending school for 15 days.
During a home visit, we learned about Payal’s situation and took steps to address it. We accompanied her to school and discussed the matter with the principal. It was revealed that her name had been removed as a scare tactic to ensure regular attendance. Since no one had approached the principal earlier, the issue remained unresolved. After our discussion, the principal promptly reinstated her enrolment.
Payal is now attending school regularly, and the teachers and principal have made special efforts to help her feel welcomed by her classmates. This supportive environment has boosted her confidence and eased her return to school.
This case highlights the significance of timely intervention and open communication between schools and families. A nurturing environment can empower children like Payal to overcome challenges and continue their education without disruption.
