Krishna is a 10-year-old girl who was admitted to the 3rd grade of a government school this year. She lives with her father, Bani Singh, and her mother, Sapna Devi, who both work in cleaning jobs. Krishna belongs to the Valmiki community and has a younger sister and brother.
Since our centre opened, Krishna has been attending classes with us. Initially, she could not come regularly due to her parents’ work commitments, as she had to care for her younger siblings. However, whenever she found time, she would attend our sessions, displaying a calm and quiet demeanour. We made it a point to visit her regularly, fostering a connection with both her and her family.
One of the main obstacles preventing Krishna from attending school was the lack of an Aadhaar card. Understanding the importance of this document, we engaged with her parents, educating them on the benefits of having an Aadhaar card for her schooling. We assisted them in gathering the necessary documents, and with our support, they successfully completed the process.
Today, Krishna is attending school regularly. One of the most significant changes we have observed in her is her newfound ability to read and write. She is now reading Hindi books with confidence and is making remarkable progress in her education.
