Anita, an 11-year-old girl, lives in Valmiki Basti with her mother, Anokhi, and her three siblings—brothers Golu and Abhishek, and sister Kavita. Their father abandoned the family over a decade ago, leaving Anokhi to raise her children alone. Struggling to make ends meet, the family faces severe financial hardships, forcing the children to take on responsibilities beyond their years.
Education and Work
Anita had to drop out of school after second grade due to financial constraints. Although she always wanted to continue her education, survival took priority. To help support their family, Anita and her siblings sell pens and stationery at traffic signals, using their earnings to buy food and cover basic needs.
Passion for Dance
Despite the challenges she faces, Anita has always had a passion for dance. Dancing is her escape—it brings her joy and momentarily frees her from the weight of her struggles. Whenever she finds a moment, she practices, losing herself in the rhythm and movement.
A New Beginning with CAC
Recently, Anita started attending the Community Activity Center (CAC), where she has found a safe and nurturing space to express herself. At the CAC, she actively explores her talents, engages in learning activities, and most importantly, receives the encouragement and support she needs. With access to a positive environment, Anita’s love for dance has only grown stronger, rekindling her hope for a brighter future.
Through continuous engagement and support, the CAC aims to help Anita reconnect with education, nurture her passion, and empower her to break free from the cycle of hardship. Her story is a testament to the resilience and potential that every child holds, despite life’s obstacles.
