Disha’s Journey to Confidence and Regular School Attendance

Disha is a 6-year-old girl, the eldest child of Mr. Ravi and Mrs. Anita Sansi. She lives in a well-built pucca house in Ramdev Kachi Basti, Gurjar Ki Thadi, Jaipur, with a joint family of 17 members. Disha has one brother and two sisters. Her mother is a homemaker, while her father works as a driver in a private school. Disha is enrolled in Smart Kids School, Champa Nagar, and is currently in the UKG class.

During our home visits, we usually found Disha at home. Occasionally, she would come to the center when her mother sent her. We noticed that she lacked confidence and appeared very shy, often seeming introverted. To help her overcome this, we focused on building her confidence by involving her in activities. We made her the captain of games, included her in peer learning sessions, and encouraged her to participate in extracurricular activities. We also allowed her to sit with other children during lunch.

These efforts continued for about 10-12 days, and during this time, we also made regular home visits to discuss Disha’s irregular school attendance with her mother. Initially, her mother mentioned, “She is still very young and will be regular when she’s a little older. Besides, at this stage, what really is there to study?” We took the opportunity to explain the importance of laying a strong educational foundation and the long-term impact of early schooling on Disha’s future. After six home visits and ongoing discussions, her parents understood the importance of regular attendance.

Alongside this, Disha started showing remarkable progress. She began speaking in class, making friends, and her confidence grew. She became more active, participating in activities on her own, and even started drawing and writing on the board when asked.

Thanks to the combined efforts from both the family and our side, Disha is now attending school regularly. We have observed many positive changes in her, including increased confidence and greater enthusiasm for learning.
