Promoting Children’s Right to Protection

At DIS, we believe that every child has the right to be safe, protected, and free from all forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Child protection is not just a priority for us—it is a core value.

Violations of child protection rights often go unnoticed or are normalized within social and cultural contexts, leaving deep and lasting impacts on children’s lives. These violations manifest in many forms: child labour, child marriage, trafficking, street children, domestic burdens, and more.</4>

Our work focuses on preventive action, community awareness, and institutional response, with support from CRY (Child Rights and You).

Our Approach Includes:

Risk Identification:
We consistently engage in identifying and understanding child protection risks and vulnerabilities in the communities we serve.

Awareness and Prevention:
Through sustained engagement with families, communities, and children, we raise awareness about the risks and promote protective practices to prevent harm before it occurs.

Referral and Response:
We link affected children and their families to appropriate referral services and duty bearers, including child welfare committees, police, legal aid, and health services.

Capacity Building:
DIS has conducted numerous trainings and workshops on critical child protection topics for children, communities, and frontline workers. Topics include:

  1. Safe and Unsafe Touch
  2. Child Sexual Abuse
  3. Child Labour and Child Marriage
  4. Mental Health and Online Safety
  5. Gender Equity and Discrimination

Key Laws: POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice Act (JJ Act), Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act (CLPRA), and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA)

Key Achievement:

DIS was engaged by Save the Children to conduct a Child Protection Needs Assessment in Banswara District, Rajasthan. Following this, we collaborated with the Department of Child Rights and District Administration to develop a comprehensive District Child Protection Plan—a significant milestone in institutional child protection planning.

Through these efforts, DIS continues to create safer environments where children can grow, learn, and thrive—free from fear and full of hope.
