This flagship initiative, supported by AU Foundation and AU Small Finance Bank, aims to empower women homeworkers and artisans by enhancing their skills, boosting production capacities, and connecting them to sustainable markets. Launched in 2018 and actively funded until 2022, the project has directly benefited over 500 women, equipping them with tools to build resilient and self-sustaining livelihoods.
Even after the funding phase ended, DIS (Development Intervention Services) continued to extend technical support in design R&D, product innovation, and marketing strategies. This sustained guidance led to the formation of Nirjhari Artisan Producer Company, a women-led enterprise that now independently carries forward the mission. DIS and AU Small Finance Bank continue to mentor and support the company, which is steadily growing and establishing its presence in the market.
Key Focus Areas:
- Skill Enhancement: Refining and upgrading skills in home décor and apparel production to help women launch viable livelihoods.
- Enterprise Building: Institutionalizing women-led businesses and building networks to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Entrepreneurial Development: Strengthening the entrepreneurial mindset, leadership skills, and confidence among women to take on business roles.
- Branding & Marketing: Creating brand visibility and establishing market linkages for the women’s products.
- Product Diversification: Continuous support for innovation and diversification in product lines to meet market trends.
- Access to Government Schemes: Linking women with relevant government schemes and benefits for further growth and support.
Through this project, we aim to not only uplift individual women but also nurture a community of empowered women entrepreneurs leading change from within.
